Q&A
What is triethyl citrate and why is it in the deodorant? Triethyl citrate is a naturally derived ingredient (it comes from citric acid, the same stuff found in citrus fruit) that works by targeting the bacteria responsible for body odour. Rather than masking smell with fragrance, it goes to the source and stops odour from forming in the first place. It's gentle, well-tolerated by skin, and doesn't interfere with your body's natural sweating process.
Is triethyl citrate safe for sensitive skin? Yes — it's one of the reasons this formula works so well for sensitive skin. It's free from the harsher odour-fighting ingredients (like bicarb soda) that can cause redness and irritation, and it has a very good safety profile. It does its job quietly, without upsetting the skin.
What does zinc ricinoleate actually do? Think of it as an odour trap. Zinc ricinoleate is derived from castor oil and works by physically absorbing and locking in odour molecules before they can be detected. It doesn't stop you from sweating (that's a good thing — your body needs to), but it does intercept the smell. Combined with triethyl citrate, you've got two different odour-fighting mechanisms working together, which is why the formula holds up well throughout the day.
I've heard zinc can be irritating — is this the same thing? Not at all. Zinc ricinoleate is a very different compound to the zinc salts used in some skincare products. It's derived from castor oil and is widely used in natural and sensitive-skin formulations. It's gentle, non-comedogenic, and doesn't block pores.
What does Wild Sage actually smell like? It's fresh, clean and herbaceous — the kind of scent that feels like a deep breath of fresh air rather than a traditional perfume. It reads as unisex, understated and fresh.
