Q&A

Why is olive oil included in this bar?  Tallow on its own doesn't lather very well, so I add Australian olive oil to bring more creaminess and bubbles to the bar. It's also rich in oleic acid, which conditions and softens the skin.

Does it smell like beef?
Not at all. The tallow is properly refined, so there’s no animal smell whatsoever. What you’ll notice is warm cedarwood and soft lavender.

Why tallow? Isn’t that old-fashioned?
It is old-fashioned — and that’s exactly why it works so well. Tallow’s fatty acids are remarkably similar to the oils our own skin naturally produces, which means it absorbs easily and leaves skin feeling soft. It’s been used in soapmaking for centuries.

What does cedarwood atlas smell like?
It’s warm, woody and earthy — like the inside of a cedar chest. Paired with lavender, it’s the kind of soap you reach for when you want your shower to feel like a proper wind-down.

What's glycerine? It's a natural by-product of cold-process soapmaking. It's an amazing skin-loving humectant that draws moisture to the skin, maintains its natural barrier and leaves it feeling soft. It's one of the reasons cold-process soap feels so different on the skin compared to commercial soaps where the glycerine is removed and sold off separately. Because it's so effective at attracting moisture from the environment, it's also the reason why you should keep your soap high and dry, in a well-draining soap dish between uses.
