Q&A

Why is olive oil included in this bar?  Tallow on its own doesn't lather very well, so I add Australian olive oil to bring more creaminess and bubbles to the bar. It's also rich in oleic acid, which conditions and softens the skin.

Does it smell like beef?
Not even a little bit. The tallow is properly refined, so there’s no animal smell at all. What you’ll notice is sweet orange, cedarwood and a bright citrusy lift from litsea cubeba. It smells like sunshine and warm wood — nothing else.

Why tallow? Isn’t that old-fashioned?
It is old-fashioned — and that’s exactly why it works so well. Tallow’s fatty acids are very similar to the oils our own skin naturally makes, which means it absorbs easily and leaves skin feeling genuinely soft. It’s been used in soapmaking for centuries, long before synthetic ingredients took over. Once you try a tallow soap, it’s hard to go back.

What does litsea cubeba smell like?
It’s a citrus essential oil with a sharp, lemony brightness — similar to lemon but a little more complex. In this blend it amplifies the sweet orange beautifully, giving the scent a fresh, vibrant top note that lifts the whole bar.
