It's one of the reasons cold-process soap feels so different on the skin compared to commercial soaps where the glycerine is removed and sold off separately.

Because glycerine is so effective at drawing moisture from the environment, it's also the reason why you should keep your soap high and dry, away from water, in a well-draining soap dish between uses.
